3/8/2005 The Hollydell Hurricanes Midget Major A1(Red) Team completed their regular season this past Saturday 3/5/2005. The Team ended the NJYHL standings in 8th place out of 23 teams at the Major A level. Unfortunately, only the top 6 teams moved on to the districts or playoffs. Their NJYHL record was 10-6-2. The final game ended in a 3-1 loss to DVHL District representative Old York Road 2. The Hurricanes doubled them up in shots but the OYR goalie played incredible. Some highlights of the season was defeating the Medford Wild Team 2 times (6-4, 7-4) in league play after losing a head to head tie breaker to them in the Silver Sticks Tournament. Another highlight was a 15 game unbeaten streak from 12/11/2005 to 3/5/2005. The team will now travel to Montreal on March 18-20 to compete in the Canadian Cup Tournament. 11/29/2004 The Hollydell Hurricanes Midget Major A1 Team traveled to Columbia Maryland to compete in the Regional Silver Sticks Tournament this past Thanksgiving weekend. The team finished with a 2-1 record and only allowed 4 goals against in three games. Unfortunately this fabulous performance wasn't good enough to make it to the finals. (There was no semi round in this tournament) Only 2 teams qualified for finals out of the 6 teams entered. The finalists were the Medford Wild with 10 1/2 points and the Fredricksburg Fury with 11 points. The Hollydell Hurricanes also had 10 1/2 points but lost the head to head tie breaker. This was because of a first game 3-2 loss to Medford in which the Hurricanes came back from a 3-0 deficit after 2 periods. The Hurricanes then handled the Metro Maple Leafs 7-1 and then blanked Team Pepsi 3-0. Despite carrying a younger team than most at the Midget Major A level, this Hurricanes Team played right with the competition every step of the way. The players should be very proud of themselves. I know from being there that the parents are very proud them. Great Job Young Men!!!
